Q & A

Can I practice on an electronic keyboard?

You can always practice on an electronic keyboard for an initial time of taking the piano lessons. But since I teach classical piano performance, I prefer my students to have and practice on an upright or grand piano. One of the main advantages of upright piano is that it brings that classical and natural sound to performance. Even if a keyboard has the same “weighted” keys as an upright piano and has other pros, it will never have the same beautiful sound that piano has.

Will there be opportunities to perform?

I arrange a piano recital every 12 months, so my students could perform in front of the audience – their parents and friends. I find it very useful and exciting for all of my students who practice very hard throughout the year.

What ages and levels do you accept?

When to start piano lessons will be different for every kid, but most will be ready at the age of 5. If your child is interested in music at the earlier age and you feel he/she is ready for the lessons, contact me for an intro lesson where I can evaluate your kid’s physical and musical abilities. It is never too early or too late to start learning to play piano. I enjoy teaching and am pleased when see someone who is really dedicated and thorough with their practice.

Am I too old to learn music?

As mentioned before, it’s never late to learn music. With piano, you should just enjoy what you are doing and know that, either slowly or quickly, as long as you are always working on new piano piece or scale, you are improving. Also, while learning you can always discover music that you never knew existed.

How long will it take me to be in playing the piano?

A 5-year-old kid who is just starting to play may only be able to concentrate for 10-30 minutes per day. While older students are more focused and can practice for about 45 minutes or more. Everyone is capable of playing the piano to some extent. It’s a fact that some students are much quicker than others, but you won’t know how much talent you own until you dedicate yourself.

What are my practice requirements?

All my students are required to practice daily for no less than 1 hour including the weekends. Whether the student is a beginner or advanced one, it’s important that all pianists need to practice.

What piano materials do I need for the lessons?

The student will need to have a note sheet of the piano pieces he or she is working on. There will also be needed to have a notebook to make notes of the recommendations and assignments for the next session.

What are your lesson rates?

Please visit Lessons & Rates page to learn more about rate.

Do you offer group lessons?

No, I only offer individual piano lessons.

How often are lessons scheduled?

One lesson is enough per week if the student practices correctly throughout the week on a daily basis and does not master the material within a few days. However, there might be an exception for those who tend to finish their assignments fast and get bored in 2 days.

Do you teach Music Theory?

Music theory is one of the vital components of foundation for any musician. Without it a student would not be able to understand the structure of the music or to “speak” with other musicians in a common language. I teach music theory to all beginners and those students who are required.

What is the parent’s role?

Parent’s role is extremely significant in the process of learning to play the piano. When parents constantly dedicate their own time to motivate their child, the kid will progress very well. Also, I appreciate and adore those parents who attend the piano lesson. This way, they know exactly what and how the child should practice and be focused on.
